1. Why should I choose
laser therapy?
Laser therapy is different from conventional therapy in the way
it affects the inflammatory process. Inflammation is one of the
responses the body has to injury and is one of the body’s
mechanisms for healing. With acute conditions, laser therapy accelerates
the inflammatory response with the result that the body heals
more quickly. With chronic conditions, laser therapy stimulates
the inflammatory response causing biochemical changes at the cellular
level that promote healing.
Laser therapy is the treatment of choice for those dealing with
acute or chronic pain. It is ideal for those who are intolerant
of medication or who choose to manage their pain without relying
on medication. Laser therapy is often the solution for those whom
have tried other forms of therapy with little or no success.
2. How long does a treatment take?
Treatments are typically fifteen minutes to one hour in duration
for any particular condition or patient.
3. How many treatments are needed?
The number of treatments will vary depending on the presenting
problem and the individual’s response to therapy. In a recent
clinical report summarizing over 1000 patients treated with the
BioFlex Professional LILT system, at time of discharge, patients
had averaged fewer than ten treatments to resolve their condition
completely. The body tends to respond quickly to a recent or acute
injury and some conditions may be resolved within a few treatments..
With chronic pain conditions, it may take a minimum of four to
six treatments before any response is observed.
4. How much does one charge for treatment?
At Avalon Laser Health, we charge $50 per half hour of treatment
for each BioFlex Professional LILT unit involved in the treatment.
5. Will my insurance pay for my treatments?
Laser Therapy is a therapeutic modality used by medical professionals
to treat pain. It is often covered as part of the treatment plan
prescribed by your medical professional. In our clinic laser therapy
may be prescribed by physiotherapy, massage therapy, acupuncture
or naturopathic professionals.
6. What are the side effects associated
with the BioFlex laser?
Bioflex laser therapy is non-toxic and non-invasive, and has no
known side-effects.
However, there are several known contra-indications. The laser
probe cannot be directed at the unprotected eye without risking
serious eye injury. The laser is not used over the uterus of a
pregnant woman in the first trimester. The laser is not used over
the thyroid gland nor over active cancer sites. Those taking photosensitive
drugs are advised to stop before proceeding with laser therapy.
7. How do I prepare for a laser assessment
at Avalon Laser Health – live without pain?
Discuss your condition with your Physician. Bring any results
of medical testing that provide information about your condition.
(X-ray, .MRI, blood tests etc) Prepare a list of treatment options
you have tried. LILT may provide you with a treatment option where
others have failed.
Laser therapy is often covered by your insurance under the treatment
plan provided by physiotherapy, massage therapy, naturopathy and
acupuncture. Check with your insurer to confirm your coverage
and bring a referral to these disciplines if needed.
8. What should I expect when I arrive
at Avalon Laser Health – live without pain?
All patients are first evaluated by a Medical specialist who will
clarify the diagnosis and the appropriateness of LILT for their
specific condition. Laser Therapy treatment often follows the
first evaluation on the same day
Patients who do not have an established diagnosis will receive
LILT where appropriate but may be asked to follow-up with their
Family Physician during the course of their treatment.
